So sánh hơn của tính từ ngắn và tính từ dài.
Tính từ ngắn: thêm -er
So sánh hơn dùng để so sánh hai người hoặc hai vật. Công thức: S + be + adj-er + than + .... Ví dụ: Tom is taller than Mary. The red house is taller than the blue house.

Tính từ dài: more + adj
Tính từ có hai âm tiết trở lên (trừ nhóm đuôi -y) dùng more + adj + than. Ví dụ: A house in a city is normally more expensive than a house in the countryside.

Chú ý: Không dùng đồng thời hai kiểu: không nói "more bigger" hay "more cheaper".
Mở rộng
Có hai tính từ so sánh bất quy tắc rất hay gặp: good → better, bad → worse. Ví dụ: My new school is better than my old school.
Mẹo: Để hỏi so sánh, nói Is A + so sánh hơn + than B? Trả lời: Yes, it is. / No, it isn't.
